Sponsored by Links2Success, the DeSoto High school gymnasium was transformed from a place of physical activity, to a place of “mental activity”. On January 29th, a 2014 Financial Aid Bonanza was held in the gym and targeted those graduating seniors that would be heading off to college in the fall. The purpose of the event was to make parents and students aware of the many scholarships and federal and state programs that are available to assist students.

Suncoast Credit Union and MidFlorida Credit Union offered workshops for the seniors on completing applications online. DCEF Executive Director, Martha Jo Markey, was also on hand to explain the criteria of the 12 scholarships that the foundation sponsors.

“What a great event and opportunity of these kids,” said one of the attending parents. “I never knew there were so many opportunities for financial assistance”.
