Florida Section SME Awards Scholarship to DHS graduate

Parker Brown and SME ScholarshipThe Florida Section of SME ( Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration) has awarded 2015 DHS graduate Jonathan Brown with a $1,000 scholarship through the DeSoto Education Foundation.  Jonathan was selected because of his practical knowledge of issues facing the economy of Florida, as well as his working knowledge of issues facing the Florida agricultural industry.

SME awards scholarships in DeSoto and  surrounding counties to students the committee recognize as outstanding young people.  In addition, in previous years instructional staff have been awarded classroom grants to supplement STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) projects within their classrooms.
