Teachers are getting the opportunity to get in each others classrooms to see different styles of instruction!
This year (2017-2018) the opportunity was available for DeSoto County School District teachers in grades 3, 4 and 5.
Once a month, P3 groups will engage in “Growth Showcases” where participants travel to each other’s classrooms and give feedback to the implementation of the focus strategy. Through observation, reflection, and discussion teachers can grow their instructional capacity and increase student achievement.
Teachers that have been asked to lead these groups will provide support through articulating how to implement specific strategies and displaying instructional practices as well as facilitating feedback sessions.
Research shows that teachers highly value being in other teachers classrooms to see effective strategies. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (along with the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations) sponsored several of these P3 models across the state in many different districts in 2016-2017. Although DeSoto was not funded by that foundation, the program model was shared all through the state and that’s when the DeSoto County Education Foundation was able to help fund the program in DeSoto.
