DeSoto County Education Foundation, Inc. Receives Grant for Classroom Mini-Grants

The Consortium of Florida Education Foundations (CFEF) recently awarded DeSoto County Education Foundation, Inc. $17,230.52 in matching funds through the School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program.  Thanks to DeSoto’s local supporters, DCEF is able to match this grant $1 for $1!

DCEF offers mini-grants to provide teachers with the opportunity to purchase resource materials and to fund projects that enhance learning to target the following categories: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math), Literacy, or Teacher Quality.  This program funds $500-$800 projects for individual teachers.  The goal of the program is to give teachers the opportunity to implement innovative programs that enhance the educational experience of students. Students of all ages in DeSoto County Schools benefit from the stimulating learning projects that funded with this program.

Teachers can apply at DCEF’s website and then mini-grant applications are reviewed and selected by a committee based on the project’s ability to enhance student learning.  All teachers in the district are eligible to apply for these grants. The first round of mini-grants were dispersed in September and October.

DCEF is now offering a second round of mini-grants!  Teachers and school administrators can apply at www.desotoeducationfoundation.com  Applications are due February 10, 2021 and will be reviewed by a DCEF selection committee.  Funds will be available by the end of February.

About CFEF

Through the collaborative effort of its members, CFEF has successfully advocated for the creation of legislative matching funds in 2000 which has provided a dollar-for-dollar incentive for local education foundations to raise private contributions for eligible projects. Since then, more than $114 million in combined private and state dollars has been employed for local projects that serve low-performing students and literacy initiatives, encourage STEM and career/technical education, improve teaching quality, and/or increase graduation rates.

The CFEF is the membership organization for Florida’s school district-wide local education foundations.  Established in 1987, the CFEF maximizes the individual and collective strength of Florida local education foundations to support local partners and schools in achieving student success. The CFEF now has 65 member foundations with 1,100 business and community leaders serving as volunteer board members. Collectively, they raise $83 million annually to support students, teachers and schools through a variety of programs. The CFEF has facilitated more than $56 million to local education foundations since 2002 through various private- and public-sector partnerships, including the State of Florida School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program.
