The DeSoto County Education Foundation, Inc. is happy to announce the award of $33,000 in mini-grants to schools and teachers

This grant which was awarded for the 2015-16 school year to DCEF, is possible because of generous community donors and sponsors which provide a match, dollar-to-dollar, thus enabling the foundation to receive the funds.  100% of the funds allocated to this project will be used for these activities.    17 mini-grants were awarded to teachers and schools and almost every student in the elementary grades and over 450 students at the middle school will be impacted by these funds. “This is such great news!” stated one teacher.  “Our students look forward to reading the material the foundation and the community sponsors will be providing.”

The grants awarded had to address six(6) main areas:  Low-Performing Students / Literacy / Career & Technical Education / STEM Education / Teacher Quality or Increasing the Graduation Rates.  All recipients are required to complete a mid-year and final year review.

Take a look at some of the great projects from the 2014-15 school year!

During the 2014-15 school year, 33 teachers representing grades Kindergarten through 12th grade were awarded $32,691.20 to supplement learning in the classroom.  Over 3,500 students were directly impacted by these teacher-directed projects.

“These additional funds allowed me to conduct experiments and projects that the students would otherwise not have benefit from”, stated one mini-grant recipient.  “This is a great way for local businesses and the foundation to support the teachers in the classrooms.”

The Foundation is constantly working with businesses and the community to pursue new programs that benefit our students, teachers, and schools. If you have an idea, we want to hear about it!
