DCEF, Inc. 2023 Scholarship Application Guidelines

  1. Complete the “General Scholarship Application Form”. Complete every section of the application with accurate information. Make copies of your application and then apply individual cover pages.  Then attach individual essays if required.
    1. All scholarship applications should be typed.
    2. Use 1.5 paragraph line space formatting for essays.
    3. Use the cover page that has been provided.
    4. Applications can be stapled or paper clipped NO REPORT COVERS PLEASE.
  2. You are required to provide complete copies for EACH SCHOLARSHIP that you are applying for when submitting your applications.
  3. Please be certain that all reference signatures are obtained before you turn in your
  4. Ask questions and seek help if you do not understand what information is being requested or how to appropriately fill out the application.

 

Warning: If you do not provide the information regarding which college(s) you have applied to and the steps that you have taken regarding the admissions process, your scholarship application will not be considered.

 

DCEF is NOT responsible for selecting the recipients of each scholarship.  The organization that sponsors the scholarship has its own committee for selection.

Due by 4:00pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2023.

DeSoto County Education Foundation, Inc. 2023 Scholarships

  1. 5 from 1985 Annual Scholarship
    1. Please include two (2) letters of recommendation.
    2. Please attach an essay explaining the following “State any special, personal or family circumstances affecting your need for financial assistance.”
  2. 20th Century Literary Club Scholarship
    1. Please attach an essay explaining the following “What literary work have you read that made the most profound impact on your life and why?” – 500 words minimum
  3. “A Bushel and a Peck” The Dorothy DuBois (“Nanny”) Memorial Scholarship
    1. The student must have a 3.5 GPA and minimum of 50 hours of community service.
    2. Please include two (2) letters of recommendation.
    3. Please attach an essay explaining one of the following:
      1. “Who in your life has been your biggest influence and why?” or
      2. “Pick an experience from your own life and explain how it has influenced your development.”
    4. Ag-Fest Scholarship
      1. The student must have participated in either the 4-H, FFA, or the Jr. Cattlemen’s Association.
      2. Please attach an essay explaining the following “State any special, personal or family circumstances affecting your need for financial assistance.”

      1. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
      2. The student must be accepted into a college/university/technical school to apply.
      3. The student must enroll as a full-time postsecondary education student for the scholarship funds to be disbursed.

    1. An essay on “Why persistence is important”
    2. Must watch the movie “Rudy” beforehand
  3. Carol McQuay Memorial Scholarship
    1. The student must be in either chorus or band.
  4. DeSoto County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship – 2 ($1,000 Scholarships)
    1. Please include three (2) letters of recommendation.
    2. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
  5. DeSoto County Teen Court
    1. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
    2. The student must have attended a minimum of ten (10) Teen Court dates.
    3. Please include two (2) letters of recommendation.
    4. Please attach a two (2) page essay, using Times New Roman 12 pt. font, discussing the following topic, “How has your experience in Teen Court affected your view of the judicial system?”
  6. First Impressions Foundation
    1. Please include three (3) letters of recommendation.
    2. The student must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA.
    3. The student must be accepted into a technical school to apply.
  7. Florida Chapter - Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) Scholarship
    1. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
    2. Please attach an essay that explains the following: The Role of Mining in My Community
  8. Gopher Roofing Scholarship
  9. James Westberry Scholarship
    1. The student must provide a letter of recommendation from his or her pastor.
  10. Jill C. Edwards Nursing Scholarship
    1. The student must be pursuing a degree in nursing.
    2. The student must be accepted into a college/university/technical school to apply.
    3. The student must enroll as a full-time postsecondary education student for the scholarship funds to be disbursed.
    4. Student must complete an essay on the topic “Why I want to be a nurse.”

    1. The student must have been in 4-H, FFA, or other agriculture related clubs. Please attach a brief essay explaining, How agriculture has affected your life and what agriculture means to our community and state.”

    1. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
    2. Must be a Cross Country team member.
    3. Please attach an essay that explains the following: Why do you run and how has it helped you?

    1. The student must be accepted into a college/university/technical school to apply.
    2. The student must enroll as a full-time postsecondary education student for the scholarship funds to be disbursed.
    3. Student must have completed community service.
    4. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
    5. The student must complete a 200-500 word essay on the topic: My Past, My Present, My Future.”

    1. Please include two (2) letters of recommendation.
    2. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
  5. Peace River Valley Citrus Growers Association Scholarship
    1. Area of Study: any area of concentration with plans of a career in the agriculture.
    2. Please include three (3) letters of recommendation.
    3. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
    4. Please write and attach an essay, a minimum of 500 words, on the following topic, “What does Florida Agriculture mean to you and how do you plan to contribute to the industry through your collegiate education?”

    1. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
    2. Please write an essay, 200 words or less, explaining the following, "How has hard work and determination influenced your life?" Also discuss in your essay, "How has your reliance on God shaped your life?"
    3. Please include your total number of community service hours on your general application.

    2. It is preferred for the essay to be typed, but it is not a requirement.

    1. Please attach a one page 500-word essay, answering the following question, “Who or What has inspired you to seek secondary education in business, accounting, computer science or education?
  7. Iris Varner Memorial Scholarship
    1. Please attach a one page 500 – word essay – explaining who you are and how you got to where you are
  8. DeSoto County Republican Executive Committee Scholarship
    1. How the U.S. Constitution is still relevant in today’s political climate
    2. Student must be registered to vote as a Republican, if 18 or older; or their parents must be Registered Republicans if they are under 18.
    3. All scholarship funds must be used within two years of award date
